Graphic Design

  • My advertisement comes from WIRED magazine, and is advertising the Ipad. The message content is bad on my add because it doesn't show us many of the capabilities of the Ipad.

  • The image is obviously trying to showcase the leisure that might come with an Ipad but I don't like how it is dilivered so Landry and I thought it didn't have good size and shape.

  • There isn't any writing in the add other than what is on the Ipad which is visible but doesn't matter in my opinion.

  • The creators of this add are probably trying to reach out towards young to middle aged men who like technology because it is in the magazine, WIRED. It is probably different than an advertisement in some other magazine or tv show.

  • 1. What are trends? Why is it important to identify them prior to graphic design? Trends are things that occur in a consistent order and they are important to identify because they can inform you of what may be to come or what might happen.

    2. How does human nature play a role in how a product is marketed to a specific demographic group? Marketers are going to make an add childlike if it is going to be in a kids magazine or on a kids channel and will do the same with adults in an adult magazine. This allows for better marketing if you know who your target age is.

    3. How is a potential audience identified? You know who will be reading or watching the thing your add is on and you will typically try to make your item appealing to those people.

    4. What must you discover about the target audience prior to graphic design? You need to know who you are trying to make the item appealing to before you can make it appealing to them.

    The Revolution Will Be Televised

Q - What technologies facilitated the regime change we witnessed in Egypt today? List 3. Describe how each technology came about and how each were used in support of the protest.
1)The use of almost instant communication through facebook- Was created by a college student trying to unite people through the internet. Allowed the revolutionary leaders to communicate and have people be able to talk with having to meet somewhere
2)Television-enabled other places and people to get inspired and support the revolution. Created by Edwin Belin in 1922 to solve the problem of how to showing motion pictures.
3)The internet- Created by Vinton Cerf in 1973 to solve the problem of long distance communication. Used not only for instant communication as stated earlier but alsoallowed people to read the laws and what they disagreed with so they would have a reason to start or help the revolution.

    Visual Design: Elements and Principles

    1) What are the 6 Visual Design Elements we discussed in class? Line, color, form/shape, space, texture, and value.

    2) What are the 5 Visual Design Principles we discussed in class? Balance, rhythm, emphasis, proportion, and unity.

    3) Locate five items at home or at school that utilize the elements and principles of design. Post an image of each product. List and explain any visual design elements or principles that are evident in that product.

This bookcase shows horizontal and vertical lines.

This rug is symmetrical which gives it a cool design.

This seat like thingy has a curved design to it which gives it its own uniqueness.

These bricks have a rough texture as well as horizontal lining.

This picture has a symmetrical look to it with the reflection on the water which makes the picture so amazing.

    Design Project

These are the 3 concepts we prototyped on paper.

Concept 1: 3 open compartments for books and paper and objects of that sort and 2 cabinets for other objects so that nothing will fall out.

Concept 2: 2 open copartments to hol books and paper and 2 cabinets that allow more organized storage.

Concept 3: 3 open compartments, 1 large and 2 small ones to hold paper books staplers and other items and a table on the side to hold things for quick and easy access.

Here's the design matrix we used to help decide on our best option

    1) My partner, Terry, and I are supposed to create a desk organizer with the dimensions of 10x12x8 inches or smaller that will reduce clutter and increase organization.

    2) We chose the desk organizer because it seemed to be the easiest and the least complicated.

    3) Step 1 is answered in number 1.

Step 2: We came up with three designs but decided to use one of them because it seemed to be the best solution to the problem.

Step 4: Criteria: create a desk organizer

constraints: Has to have 8x10x12 inch dimensions and have 5 different parts. Must be able to hold 6 things insisde of it.

    State of the Union Address

I have never liked the state of the union address because it gives the current president an unfair advantage over any candidate that may run against him in the future. More americans watch the state of the union address than any speech by a candidate running for the position. President Obama can withhold any information that he wants, most likely the things that he and his administration have been doing poorly, but he can dish out info on all the things he and his administration are doing well. It just gives the american people a false sense of hope or faith in the administration that is in place. Every time a candidate is on TV, he/she is arguing against someone else and there is another person who is pointing out all the facts that he/she is trying to hide. The current problem with our government is that we are treating it as a necessity and not as a company, but thats what it is. The government's income is the taxpayers money and it is supposed to spend that money on the very taxpayers who support it with their money. Just like Walmart, you give them money for something in return. If we treated the government the same way as we treat walmart, then there wouldn't be a problem because most likely there would be no government. The government, as a company is failing. It is somehow losing and spending more money than the money it is getting. How can it possibly spend over 25% of the money made in the United States every year when it is only supposed to support people that need support and provide a military that it only spends 10% of the money it gets on. My solution to this problem would be to not financially support the government and let it run on its own, like Walmart and if it happens to go bankrupt, then we get back to the origins of our country, 50 different governments all under one name who come together in times of need. That would create more opportunities for states, thus money and support to leave the country but would also provide a stronger government and a wealthier country as a whole.
